Let’s start with my parents. Here they are shortly after they were married in about 1932 on my mother’s parents’ farm in Valley City, North Dakota. They remind me of Bonnie and Clyde in this photograph.
Now here I am (that’s me on the left) with my sister Jean. We are about 6 and 7 years old here and lived with our parents, older sister Beverly and brother Dale in a colonial-style house in a middle-class neighborhood in Billings, Montana. The world was my oyster then.
Now here I am at the age of 17 when I was ready to graduate from Billings Senior High School and take the world by storm. This photo was taken about the time I had gotten my Master’s Degree in Painting from the San Francisco Art Institute in about 1967. That old car is a British racing green MGDT. I drove it around town often with our dog Tray, a Kerrie Blue terrier with his nose to the wind.
Jump ahead to the year 1980 just before I left Billings to go to New York City, where I would live for the next 23 years. This photo was taken by my friend Priscilla.
